Our Training for Dry Cleaning and Laundry covers essential cleaning techniques, equipment handling, fabric care, stain removal and business management skills.
Good training for dry cleaning and laundry should help you assess garments, understand cleaning processes, work safely with equipment and organise a reliable service. Your first customer walks in and hands you a bag of clothes. There are everyday shirts, trousers and an embellished kurta or lengha needed for a family function. You count the pieces, discuss the collection date and prepare the receipt.
What happens next?
Someone must inspect each garment, identify concerns, choose the appropriate process and track the order until delivery. These decisions begin at the counter, well before a machine starts.
At the Global Institute of Laundry Management (GILM), we encourage you to understand that journey before investing. Whether you plan to open a shop, improve an existing operation or work in the trade, start with the responsibilities you will actually handle.
What kind of laundry business do you want to run?
Your business model determines the skills you need first. A collection store requires strong customer and processing-partner management; an in-house processing unit also requires equipment, production and technical supervision skills.
If you plan to outsource cleaning, you still need to inspect garments, record instructions and check returned work. Customers will come to you when something is late or unsatisfactory, even if another business processed the order.
If you plan to process garments yourself, think through space, utilities, equipment, staffing and the services you can competently provide. You may decide to outsource certain specialist items initially.
What is the difference between washing, dry cleaning and wet cleaning?
Washing uses water and detergents; dry cleaning uses a solvent other than water as its main cleaning medium. Professional wet cleaning uses water with specialised equipment, products and controlled processes suited to the garment.
Professional wet cleaning is different from selecting a gentle cycle on a household washer. GINETEX explains that the equipment, treatment aids and finishing requirements of professional wet cleaning cannot be reproduced simply through household washing. Its care-labelling guidance also distinguishes permitted professional cleaning processes and restrictions. Read GINETEX textile care guidance.
During fabric care training, we want you to ask why a process is appropriate. Consider the fibre, dye, finish, lining, trims, construction and care instructions together. A familiar-looking fabric does not make every garment suitable for the same treatment.
What should training for dry cleaning and laundry cover?
Look for six connected skills: counter inspection, fabric and stain assessment, equipment use, order tracking and quality control, costing, and staff management. Together, they help you understand both garment care and the decisions behind daily operations.
1. Counter handling and garment inspection
Return to that embellished kurta. Before promising stain removal or a delivery time, inspect its condition and care label. Ask what caused the stain and whether the customer has already tried treating it.
Record concerns, explain what needs assessment and agree on the service. We recommend practising this conversation as carefully as the technical work. A clear receiving record gives everyone handling the order useful information.
2. Fabric assessment and stain removal training
You should learn how to assess a stain in the context of the whole garment, including colour and decorative details. Ask what supervised exercises the course includes and how the trainer checks your judgement.
No single treatment suits every stain or fabric. Practical learning should include recognising when to stop, seek guidance or explain a limitation to the customer. Chemical use and testing must follow product instructions and suitable supervision.
3. Machines and safe operation
Understand the equipment your proposed services require, how it fits your workload and what it needs to operate. Ask about demonstrations, supervised practice, routine checks and maintenance responsibilities.
4. Order tracking and quality control
Follow the complete order flow:
Receiving → Identification → Assessment → Processing → Finishing → Checking → Packing → Delivery
At each stage, know who is responsible, how the garment remains identifiable and where exceptions are recorded. Practise checking the finished order against the original instructions before packing it.
5. Costing and pricing
Learn to build a service cost from your own inputs: labour, utilities, chemicals, packaging and outsourced work where relevant. Your pricing must also contribute towards rent, maintenance and administration.
For wider planning, our laundry setup cost guide for India introduces expense categories. Obtain current quotations for your own location and treat planning figures as estimates.
6. Managing staff and daily work
Learn to explain tasks, assign responsibilities and check that instructions are understood. Agree on who can approve an exception, contact a customer or release an order.
What mistake can training help a new owner avoid?
Buying equipment before planning the complete workflow can leave an owner with capacity in one area and a bottleneck elsewhere. Training helps you examine the full service before committing money.
Consider this illustrative scenario, rather than a reported student incident. A new owner chooses a washer based mainly on capacity, then discovers that the planned drying and finishing arrangements cannot keep pace. Orders accumulate while the owner searches for a solution.
The lesson is to map expected services, utilities, staffing and each processing stage before ordering equipment. We would use that exercise to identify the questions the owner still needs to answer—not promise that a particular machine will solve everything.
What are your training options in India?
You can explore online study, practical institute training, supervised workplace learning and supplier demonstrations. Compare their scope and access to feedback; each can serve a different learning need.
| Training option | What you learn or should check | Rough cost or fee basis | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online certificate course | Course-dependent theory, business concepts and assessments; check whether practice is included | 3 online courses with bundle of ₹39,999, with 5-day practical training | Learners needing flexible study and revision |

Practical attendance gives you opportunities to handle equipment and garments with supervision; choose the combination that fits your current skills and intended role. Though bundle include practical classes of 5 days as well for complete training so you start write , control the operation right and then you scale the right way.

What happens in GILM’s 5-Day Practical Laundry Training?
Our five-day programme uses real garments and real machines at our Delhi training centre. Batches start on the 24th of every month, and the fee is ₹17,500 (offer price at the time of writing).
The programme covers eight modules:
1. Business and industry fundamentals.
2. Machines and equipment.
3. Chemicals and fabric care.
4. Store operations.
5. Stain removal and spotting.
6. Special cleaning services.
7. Washing and wet cleaning.
8. Pressing, finishing and packing.
Explore our dry cleaning training course in India to discuss the programme and your practical learning needs.
Five days is the programme duration, not a promise of mastery over every garment or cleaning problem. Use the course to identify what you understand, what needs more practice and when you should seek technical guidance.
Who can train the staff working in your laundry?
Our 15-Day Manpower course is intended for practical workforce learning, with food and stay included. It addresses staff skills such as sorting, spotting, washing, pressing and packaging.
Before choosing training for your team, list each person’s responsibilities. Confirm the next workforce batch separately rather than assuming it follows the five-day programme’s schedule. People seeking jobs should also ask about the practical learning relevant to their intended role.
Which seven questions should you ask before enrolling?
Ask questions that connect the course to your plans and establish what you will receive. Keep the answers in writing so you can compare the programme with your learning needs.
1. Does the programme suit my intended business model or job role?
2. Which tasks will I practise myself, and which will be demonstrated?
3. How will trainers supervise practice and check my understanding?
4. Does it cover costing and workflow, or do I need separate business learning?
5. What are the completion and certificate requirements?
6. What does the total fee include, including materials, meals and accommodation?
7. What help can I receive afterwards, through which channel and for how long?
What else should you know before joining?
Confirm the details for your chosen programme before paying or booking travel. These answers distinguish our five-day owner-focused practical training from the longer workforce course.
How long does it take to learn dry cleaning?
Our practical programme lasts five days. Developing independent competence takes further practice depending on your experience, equipment and garment range; course duration should not be treated as a universal time to master the trade.
Can I learn laundry online only?
You can study theory and business concepts online. If you intend to operate equipment or process garments, arrange supervised practical learning and feedback before taking responsibility for unfamiliar work.
What is the fee for laundry training in Delhi?
Our 5-Day Practical Laundry Training costs ₹17,500 (offer price at the time of writing). Confirm the current offer and inclusions with our team before booking; other programmes have separate fees.
Do I need experience to join?
No previous laundry experience is required for our five-day practical programme. Tell us whether you plan to open a business, improve an existing store or work in the trade so we can discuss your learning priorities.
Is accommodation available?
Accommodation is not included in the five-day practical course; our team can share nearby stay options. Food and stay are included in the 15-Day Manpower course. Confirm arrangements for your selected programme before travelling.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes. Our integrated five-day laundry and dry cleaning programme includes one GILM certificate covering both subjects on completion. Ask our team about the completion requirements and certificate-issuing process before enrolling.
Ready to plan your training before opening your shop?
Choose training for dry cleaning and laundry around the work you intend to handle. Bring your service list, business questions and any equipment quotations so the learning connects with your opening plans.
At ₹17,500 (offer price at the time of writing), the five-day training fee equals 1.75% of a ₹10 lakh business investment. This is a budget comparison, not a required investment amount or a forecast of returns.
Next batch starts on the 24th. WhatsApp us to check seats.
